Great things on the web

Most of the internet already knows about Notpron, but I will comment it anyway. It's a pure use of the web to make a very hard game of... well, I'm not sure which category of games it fits. It was conceived by the german David Münnich.

The game concept is simple: you enter through a page/level and have to discover your way to the next level. The current level gives hints about how to get to the next. As the index page already mention, it is NOT a point and click game such as Crimsom Room. Instead, you have to discover the real internet address (URL) and/or the username and password that gives access to the next level.

It is not a game of logic, either. The hints have many connotations and usually require some background knowledge and more than a bit of pop/geek culture. So it will not be everyone who will enjoy this. Those that do enjoy will have many days/months/years of hard puzzles to solve.

The real interesting thing about notpron is that it actually uses the web in a pure way. That is, it does not requires plugins or any fancy graphics or effects. The mechanisms are all internal and basic to the web: level change, level access, hint searching etc. Even though it does require some external softwares in some levels, those are also available in the web and most of them are usually already found in most computers.

I sort of gave up in level 46, which required too much of my musical abilities. But I'll return to it as soon as I acquire an absolute pitch ear.
